Following up last weeks news of expansion into Turkey and Brazil, PlaySpan is in the news again, inking a deal with the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and its subbrands PBS KIDS and PBS KIDS PLAY! to distribute a co-branded Ultimate Game Card to 800 Toys 'R' Us stores. The card lets unbanked consumers pay for games and other game-related transactions.
Today's news means families and kids who want to participate in the PBS KIDS PLAY! online site can now pay for content and services with the PlaySpan card purchased in a physical location. The card makes PBS Kids online content accessible to families that might not have a credit card or those who want to set limits on the amount of time their their children spend on education and entertainment.
The PBS KIDS brand for preschoolers, and PBS KIDS GO! for early elementary school kids offer children "the opportunity to explore new ideas and new worlds through television, online and community-based programs."
The PBS KIDS PLAY! site is averaging more than 1.2 million streams per week, PBS says. In March of this year, more than 9 million unique visitors visited the PBS umbrella destination, pbskids.org.
PlaySpan's Ultimate Game Card is used now for some 300 multiplayer games and around 700 games on popular social networking sites and is available in about 45,000 retail locations across North America.

With all that good news maybe PlaySpan will hire back the people they laid off in January.
