After debuting as an online-only MMO in December, soccer title Football
Superstars is bound for a retail shelf near you. A boxed version of the
freemium title is slated to go on sale sometime this fall, say the game's publisher, CyberSports. UK pricing has been revealed as GBP 19.99. CyberSports says the retail version will
provide gamers with new features, including "an increased variety of game
modes, new training options and the chance to buy licensed items from Puma and
Reebok."
The game tallied over 300,000 registered users as of last week and while news of the upcoming move to retail was not backed up with strategy, it could be as simple as the game makers feeling like uptake of title in its online-only format wasn't as rapid as they might have wanted. A premium edition of the game -- no price revealed -- will include a three months subscription, 40 Football Superstars bonds (in-game currency), four unique skills and exclusive licensed Puma sportswear.
