Metaversum Gets Gov Funding in Singapore
Metaversum announced today that it had received funding from the multi-agency Interactive Digital Media R&D Programme Office hosted by the Media Development Authority of Singapore to develop geo-tagging and geo-located media, which users will be able to place and access in Metaversum's newly in beta mirror world, Twinity. The project, Co-Space, was announced earlier this year and may be targeting a launch around the 2010 Youth Olympics to be held in Singapore. Metaversum will also be working on city-building tools to add a virtual Singapore to Twinity, with the city targeting a launch later this year and local partners already signing up, including The Digital Movement, a not-for-profit organization connecting opinion leaders in the digital space, and the Geek Terminal, a tech-centric business café in downtown Singapore.
"The Co-Space Call for Proposals adds to Singapore's drive to be a key player in the next generation Internet, where the web will become even more immersive and integrated into our daily lives," Mr Michael Yap, Executive Director, IDMPO, said in a statement. "Significantly, we hope to attract more global companies to use Singapore as a test-bed for innovative media services."
