Representative Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) held a press conference yesterday "flanked by the mayor and police chief as well as other community representatives" to advocate legislation to protect children from the dangers of Second Life and MySpace. You may remember Kirk as the Congressperson who came out strong against Second Life's "rape rooms" this summer and its "$60,000-a-year, K Street lobbyist" who was trying to obscure the fact that the virtual world's existing above-the-bar protection wasn't enough to keep kids safe from predators. According to the report, Kirk attacked Second Life while the police gave examples of stings conducted on MySpace.
As a matter of pure coincidence, early voting for Kirk's current House seat begins a week from yesterday. [via RedOrbit]
