Virtual Worlds Innovation Awards Winners
Thanks to all who could make it in person to the first annual Virtual Worlds Innovation Awards last night. As a member of the judging panel, I can tell you that we had a tough time pinning down winners in all the categories. The innovation in the virtual worlds industry over the last year or so represents growth by leaps and bounds, and we simply couldn't recognize every person, company, service, or product that sparked our interest--that's one big reason we'll be continuing the awards next year. For now, though, I'm excited to announce a list of winners who I believe represent great new opportunities, approaches, and, of course, innovation for the virtual worlds space:
Innovation in Virtual Worlds for Consumers
-IMVU
-Weblin
Innovation in Virtual Worlds for the Enterprise
-IBM, represented specifically by the work of evangelist Ian Hughes
-Forterra
Innovation in Virtual Worlds for Youth
-BarbieGirls.com
-vMTV
Virtual Worlds Pioneer award
-Edward Castronova
Overall Innovation
-The OpenSim community, represented in person by Adam Frisby
Congratulations again to all the incredibly deserving winners. It's our pleasure to recognize innovation, and we look forward to returning next year for another round.

Good companies,
Barbie girls, mtv and Forterra...wooohoo!
I am sure they have
employees who share
in the benefits of their
success, enjoying the virtual
ride to the top of the ecomonic heap.
But then again, maybe not.
