The SISA Computer Science Lab at Samsung posted a concept video last week of their Mobile Immersive Virtual Outreach Navigator (miVON), a mobile interface for 3D virtual environments. The first part, while pretty impressive, looks like standard navigation using panning and tilting, but the final bit shows the user moving his hand behind the phone to affect the environment with hand gestures. We've talked before with Lab VP Victoria Coleman abous Samsung's interest in taking virtual worlds to consumer electronics. It looks like that's coming to fruition. Video below.
According to the video description, "Samsung is currently developing VW roadmap and will launch products soon. The video is an example of R&D efforts in this area." For more information on the roadmap that Samsung is building, check out the group's keynote at Virtual Worlds London, October 20-21, with executives from Intel, Samsung, Electric Sheep, ngi group, and Contact Consortium.
For more information on miVON specifically, Samsung says future updates will be posted on its Open Innovation site.
Navigator feature of this mobile has a strong presence in customers. Its picture quality is very good. I think it is best in its class.
