Linden Lab announced today the appointment of Tom Hale as Chief Product Officer. Most recently, Hale spent about a year as an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Redpoint Ventures, focusing on "the intersections of gaming, virtual goods and virtual worlds, online communications, community and social networking." Previously, he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Knowledge Worker Business Unit at Adobe Systems, where he led agendas for collaboration and software as a service. In other words, with Linden focusing on new ways to productize its services in the face of OpenSim and launching new products like the Second Life Grid and the enterprise-targeted Immersive Workspaces with Rivers Run Red, Hale seems like a pretty solid fit.
“Tom brings deep experience at every stage of the product lifecycle – from creating, launching and marketing great products to building large businesses around them,” Linden CEO Mark Kingdon said in a statement. “Second Life is made up of an unusually complex array of products, and few executives have the range required to craft and execute a product strategy for such a rich, vibrant and diverse experience. Tom does. He will play a pivotal role in taking Second Life to the next level and will be a great partner for me.”
