PlaySpan Acquires PayByCash
PlaySpan announced today that it had acquired PayByCash for an unstated sum of money. The commerce solution provider's acquisition of one of the leaders in the alternative payment method space could create a potent combination for anyone looking to micro-transactions as a monetization method. As the space heats up and retail cards become more important, that's particulary true for the under-18 market. PayByCash currently serves over 150 virtual worlds and online games with its Ultimate Game Card, including Club Penguin, Nexon America, and IMVU.
“The shift from boxed games on retail shelves to in-game micro-transactions as the preferred method of monetization is just starting,” said Shawn Carolan, Managing Director at Menlo Ventures. “So to see the two leaders come together and combine their already significant customer and revenue momentum is an investor’s dream come true.”
