Linden Lab Plans to Provide "Value-Added Services" for OpenSim
With IBM and Linden Lab joining for an official announcement on limited interoperability between the Second Life Grid and OpenSim, it looks like Linden is supporting an open-source alternative to its revenue source of renting virtual land in the form of server space. Its new plan for OpenSim, according to a Reuters interview with VP Joe Miller is to look for "value-added services," like a reputation or economy system thta makes the Second Life Grid, or its properties, attractive alongside the open grid. Miller told Reuters that “I could see Linden offering economic services, trading services, search services." [via Reuters]
