iOpener Working to Let Mixed-Reality Players Race with the Pros
iOpener Media, which we first noticed when it received a $6 million investment in February, got a nice feature from the BBC today about its plans to create a mixed-reality racing game, pitting average users against professional Formula One drivers. iOpener will track real-time differential GPS data from the races and send it to PCs and consoles. The focus is specifically on gaming instead of broader virtual worlds applications, but similarities to mirror world applications for government or enterprise use, like those being discussed in Singapore, are exciting. Obviously this is a specific setup, but iOpener says it can track the cars to within 3cm. If users get accustomed to that detailed mixed reality for entertainment, I could see effects spreading out elsewhere in pretty interesting ways.
"It's clear that the next trend in gaming is going to be bringing real objects into the virtual world; playing not against other gamers but people doing the real thing," Founder Andy Lurling told the BBC. "You can compete against the best of the best."

WOW! thats cool!
