Immersive Education Initiative Launches Education Grid on Wonderland
The Immersive Education Initiative announced today the launch of the Education Grid as a preview on Sun Microsystems' Project Wonderland servers with hosting provided by Essex University, University of Oregon, St. Paul College, New Media Consortium, Common Need, and Sun Microsystems. Later this month, the Education Grid will launch services in Second Life and later still in Croquet. The goal is to work with open source platforms to provide educators an end-to-end ecosystem of educational environments, games, assets, and simulations. Initiative members can also use the resources to build their own worlds, with environments to be hosted by the Initiative itself. member organizations, or a combination thereof. The Initiative has far reaching plans, with this launch as only the beginning. Read about them in Director Aaron Walsh's own words from when he explained the Initiative's goals to us in January.
