Over 100 Agencies in Federal Virtual Worlds Consortium; Conference Wrap Up
We highlighted the Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds in November, as the group was preparing for its first conference. The second, much larger conference came last month. Unfortunately, we weren't able to make it and I've missed this wrap up until now, but anyone interested in government work should check out Anne Laurent's summary of the conference at NextGov. Of particular interest, she notes that over 100 agencies are now involved, and many are moving forward with big plans. In particular, the Air Force issued a presolicitation notice last month looking for information on prototyping its massive virtual world MyBase. There's still plenty of hurdles, though. Laurent cites interoperability as a major one. If nothing else, "the Navy wants to be able to launch a missile in one world and hit a target in another." [via NextGov]
