Mitch Kapor: Body Language Mirroring with 3D Cameras in a Month
Handsfree 3D's demos of using a 3D camera to navigate and work in Second Life have been pretty exciting. UgoTrade caught up with Mitch Kapor to ask about the work's progress. It seems like it's coming together fast. "I’m actually incredibly excited about the thing [developer] Philippe [Bossut] is working on now which is to use the camera so that avatars can directly mirror body language and facial expression," said Kapor. "So that if I’m sitting in my chair and I have my arms crossed, my avatar will cross it’s arms. If I tilt my head to the side or smile or frown, the avatar will do the same thing. We’re quite optimistic that we can do something compelling in pretty short order, like less than a month." Kapor also said that developers are near-certain that, at the latest, Christmas Season of 2009 will see mass availability of inexpensive 3D cameras. [via UgoTrade]
