Metaversum Using Singapore as "Gateway to Asia"; Aiming at Co-Space?
Singapore will be the hub for Metaversum to take its upcoming mirror world, Twinity, into Asia, reports Today Online. "Singapore is a gateway to Asia, with access to native speakers of the main Asian languages, a stable business and intellectual property environment with a well-educated workforce," said Metaversum co-founder and CMO Dr. Mirko Caspar. In February, Metaversum announced that it would be using Pacific West Communications to conduct integrated marketing campaigns for the virtual world in Singapore.
"We are considering starting with a customer support force to support our local customer base and then gradually expanding from localization to marketing, business development and research and development activities," said Caspar.
Current local job listings ask for support staff to potentially work in offline events, but to also "greet customers inside Twinity, help them navigate the world, and resolve technical problems."
It's important to note that while Singapore may be a stepping stone to the rest of Asia, it's also a prime spot for a mirror world company right now. The Media Development Authority has launched a program to create a mirror world, Co-Space, with government funding, which may be aimed at launching for the 2010 Youth Olympics.
When we first mentioned the project, it wasn't clear if Metaversum would have a shot at the RFP, ending in June, since it's a non-native company. With entry points like this, though, it may be in the running.
Andrew Peters of Pacific West couldn't confirm how the process was going, but he did say that senior management from Metaversum would be arriving in Singapore next week.

Is the gateway facing north or south? There are at least four official languages in Singapore. The closest countries are malaysia, indonesia, thailand. Which language do you refer to? Im just curious.. :)
