JumpStart Launches Pre-School Virtual World
It's not the first virtual world for preschoolers--Disney's BunnyTown launched last fall--but Knowledge Adventure announced today JumpStart Advanced Preschool World. Aimed at 3- to 5-year-olds, the virtual world packages "adventure-based learning" into a 3D virtual neighborhood where users can design their own homes as well as customize their avatars' clothing, faces, hair styles, and more. “Blending learning and entertainment is the best possible development environment for kids,” David Lord, President and CEO, said in a statement. “By being the first to create a 3D virtual world for preschoolers, JumpStart’s adventure-based learning approach raises the bar for inspiring kids’ minds.”
Kids can also visit a library where they can earn rewards for playing educational games, learn about instruments at the music house, painting in the art house, or just play in the swimming hole and watch music videos at the theatre.
The software retails in stores for MSRP $29.99 and online at Knowledge Adventure for $19.99 + shipping. The announcement doesn't mention any subscription fees, but the company will be selling add-on packs down the road. The first, set for a holiday release, will add a pet playground, beach, and a jungle.
It looks like that's all offline, though.
According to CNET, the company will add a subscription option for $8-$12, letting parents check on their kids' progress and kids' share their art and designs and access new content. The point seems always focused on education, though, with social fun as the background.
"We are very skilled at building software products for kids, with immersive 3D play, gaming, and adventure-based learning. (This new software) is not a hangout place--it's an immersive environment," Lord told CNET.

My sister-in-law has a 2 year old beautiful baby girl and she bought JumpStart Advanced Preschool world for her. I was at their home while the girl was playing the game and it is awesome. It’s a beautiful 3D virtual world that is fun and adventurous. Kids learn educational lessons, like their alphabet, as well as life lessons like eating healthy and sharing. Highly recommended for all preschoolers!

My daughter (4) rec'd JumpStart Advanced Preschool World as a present. She was completely immersed in the game play and the environment. Of all the games that she has, she plays the Preschool World the most. I would highly recommend this product.
