Foreign Policy on Beijing Cyber Recreation District

Foreign Policy has a brief look at the Beijing Cyber Recreation District, the massive virtual world project from the Chinese government and partner MindArk. Foreign Policy puts the world as opening up in July, though Chief Scientist Robert Lai told me at Virtual Worlds 2008 that the full launch might not come until the fall (more on that conversation to come).  “We are re-creating China,” Lai told Foreign Policy. “The real China is only a piece of land. We believe that there must be a China in the virtual world and the real world. In the virtual world, people can live a better life that’s more entertaining, more fun.”
