Clever Zebra Launches Zebra Corporate
Clever Zebra, the open-source buildings solution for Second Life that came out of Metaversed, has launched
its first free content kit for setting up shop in Second Life. Zebra Corporate offers a free version, designed to build with drag-and-drop simplicity, including 60- and 120-seat amphiteathers, a galleria, large and small offices, building textures, landscaping tools (like planters and bridges), gadgets for communication, and a presentation tool for showing PowerPoint presentations and other demos in-world. The enterprise edition, at $4,950 to start and $395/month, offers professional installations, customization, and premium add-ons in the coming weeks.
Founder Nick Wilson explained that while there has been some interest in the enterprise edition, there have been no pre-orders. Kelly Services, a sponsor in Clever Zebra's vBusiness Expo coming up later this month, thoughm represents the first commercial use. And the builds are sure to see plenty of traffic during the show.
The premium add-ons, when they come, "will likely feature metrics, media services, training, priority support and event management for starters," said Wilson.
In the meantime, the free version is already being used by the Serious Games Institute and Nonprofit Commons.
"We were able to get the cost down so low in part due to the proposed land price changes by Linden, but also by focusing on providing a 'basic' product, where people can add the services and add-ons they need, explained Wilson. "The basic product is complete, though: no missing features, hobbled permissions, etc. Just a great drag-and-drop solution to a Corporate/Edu Second Life presence."
