Update: Awards Roundup: Emmy for Entropia; Webby Honors for Rivers Run Red and Millions of Us, Nod for Club Penguin
The Oscars have come and gone, but virtual worlds award season is ramping (and being rounded) up. Entropia Universe was featured in a participatory drama "The Truth About Marika," produced by Swedish Television and The Company P, now the winner of Best Interactive TV Service from the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. "We are beyond thrilled to be part of this Emmy Award and are extremely thankful to Swedish Television and The Company P for allowing us to be part of this momentous partnership," Mindark Chief Information Officer Marco Behrmann, said in a statement. "We look forward to more integration of entertainment outlets as technology and viewer demand calls for it."
Rivers Run Red has the chance for some of its own virtual tin, with two "Official Honoree" distinctions in the Webby Awards for its Vodafone InsideOut and Royal British Legion – Garden of Remembrance projects in Second Life. The virtual worlds developer has also been nominated in the Interactive Advertising, Branded Content category for the Coca Cola Happiness Factory II – The Virtual Premiere.
“Rivers Run Red is unique in that we place an emphasis on exceptional design that maps back to the original goal of a project. We are honored to receive these distinctions that further validate the emergence of the 3D Web and the viability of the Second Life Grid,” said Justin Bovington, CEO of Rivers Run Red.
Disney's Club Penguin has also been nominated for a Webby Award in the Youth category.
Voting for the Webby Awards will close on May 1.
UPDATE: I missed this the first time around, but Millions of Us has also taken Honors in the Interactive Advertising, Branded Content category for its work in Gaia Online to promote the WWE SummerSlam. Apologies and congratulations to the folks at MoU.
