Harper Collins Launching Virtual World to Promote "Think Pink" Books
"Think Pink," a series of guides for young girls organized around the character of Lola Love, is getting a virtual world from publisher HarperCollins. Designed to promote writer Lisa Clark's work, Lola's Land is the first of its kind from HarperCollins. The company has partnered as a licensee with Viacom to produce Neopets items and published Wagner James Au's "The Making of Second Life," but it's never produced a white label world for publicity.
Lola's Land, designed and built by Mykindaplace with advertising sales from Sky Digital Media, sounds like it will be a mix of social networking and virtual worlds, with customizable avatars, friends lists, games to earn spendable points, an interactive space, and daily updates for reviews, blogs, and celebrity news.
"Lola Love has proved herself to be a great role model for tween girls through our publishing programme, and it makes perfect sense to extend her life online," said Katie Fulford, Special Projects Director at HarperCollins. "With Lola's Land we have produced a responsible site that combines the editorial content of traditional magazines with games and safe social networking, all with Lola's underlying message of having fun and feeling good about yourself."
Lola's Land is set to launch April 14.
