In a panel yesterday on Socioeconomic in virtual worlds, Gaia CEO Craig Sherman announced a whole different set of plans. The virtual world company is launching an MMOG. The company has been developing the game for two years, and it plans to launch this summer. Gaia, which has about 5 million users now, expects the MMO to quickly become a top title based on its existing success: while the name hasn't been announced, Gaia has received about 20,000 suggestions from users. Sherman said the game won't be just Gaia with combat, becoming, instead, more of a full-fledged gaming experience, albeit with a social context. A Gaia representative explained that "It won't be woven through the existing Gaia. It'll be like when Disneyland expands. It's part of Gaia, but it's not like you'll be able to walk out of your cottage and fight someone." We'll be talking to Sherman soon, so stay tuned for more information.

We must say that Gaia is improving his services. The MMOG will surely encourage people who are not looking primarily for social networking to sign up just for the game side of this.
