Toyota "Most Adventurous Marketer"; Gaia Hosts Most Brands
Nic Mitham of Kzero has put together a table looking at marketing and branding efforts across virtual worlds. He points out that while Second Life gets the most attention from the mainstream press when brands make a virtual effort, it's far from the only world where brands are present. In fact, according to Mitham, Gaia Online is currently drawing the most brand interest, with representation from Sony, Warner Bros., The WWE, MTV (The Hills), and Toyota. Toyota, though, is hardly limiting its options. Mitham labels it the the "most adventurous marketer" for striking out across Second Life, There, Gaia, Whyville, and even a World of Warcraft-themed commercial. At an MIT panel on Virtual Worlds & Business Value, Adrian Si, Director, Scion/Toyota Motor Sales, laid out his plans. "I will say we’re investing in the six figure in the virtual space over several worlds," he explained. "We’re trying to hit the users and innovators in these communities."
