Gaia to Announce Facebook Connection

Gaia Online will announce tomorrow a Facebook app to connect the youth-oriented virtual world to the social network. Gaia already registers the Bebo social network as a top-ten source for users-- there have been 100,000 downloads of the application on Bebo which drives 500 registrants per day--but Facebook's 35 million users makes Gaia's 4 million seem almost insignificant. While there are plenty of virtual world apps on Facebook, it seems the less immersive they are, the more successful they will be initially. Gaia's Bebo app offers limited interaction with the world, and seems to be doing well at attracting users. While just earlier today we reported that Conduit Labs had released its Facebook app,  Gartner analyst Andrew Frank told the Mercury News that he didn't know of other worlds linking to social networks "I could see how that could spark more interest in virtual worlds," he said.
