When Club Penguin was up for purchase, one of the rumored reasons that Sony backed out was that Club Penguin insisted on maintaining its charitable donations. After Disney acquired the children's virtual world in August for $350 million, Club Penguin gave $30 million to charity. Now it's letting its users divide their gold earned in-world between environment, children's health or children's education. Club Penguin will then split $1 million between the World Wildlife Fund, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Free The Children. [via AP]

Brilliant. Delighted to hear about this initiative!
