Intel in HiPiHi at Launch

Intel China and HiPiHi have announced that they are entering into a partnership of the new virtual world.  On November 22, Intel will launch Intel Island on 160,000 square meters of land to host the "Intel Experience Center," "Intel's activity center," and "Intel partners Club." The Intel Xeon server will provide the backbone for HiPiHi, so Intel is involved both in front and behind the scenes. HiPiHi is also recommending that users run the virtual world on Intel machines for a farther reaching technology partnership.

"As China’s first company to enter into the virtual worlds market, HiPiHi has already attracted Intel and P&G which are well-established multi-national companies," said HiPiHi CEO Xu Hui. "We believe that there are other companies of such stature who will join us in the future and take HiPiHi to the next level such that it will add value and attract more enterprises and consumers to join us."

Intel and HiPiHi were both present at the initial interoperability meeting for setting standards in virtual worlds, and in interviews on the new Intel presence, Xu has been reiterating his commitment to finding third parties to help develop standards. IBM, which helped organize the initial meeting, is rumored (if I understand the Google translation) to be working with HiPiHi more closely, possibly in a similar fashion to its partnership with Second Life's Linden Lab.
