Updated: Dutch Police Arrest Habbo Hotel Thief

An Amsterdam teenager has been arrested for allegedly hacking into other Habbo Hotel users' accounts and stealing 4000 worth of virtual furniture. Four other teenagers have been questioned for apparently moving the furniture into their rooms. It's not clear whether the arrest is based more on hacking, the theft of virtual goods, or a combination of the two. Interestingly, though, it doesn't seem like the teens in question were trying to sell the furniture afterwards for profit, just take it for their own use. [via Yahoo]

Update: In the fear/hype category, the BBC closes its report with this fairly unrelated anecdote:

"Virtual theft is a growing issue in virtual worlds; in 2005 a Chinese gamer was stabbed to death in a row over a sword in a game.

Shanghai gamer Qiu Chengwei killed player Zhu Caoyuan when he discovered he had sold a "dragon sabre" he had been loaned."

Hopefully the Beeb hasn't given the Amsterdam teenagers any ideas.
