Ngi group subsidiary 3Di.jp announced yesterday the release of Jinsei, a virtual world platform created alongside the open source community. "This collaboration with the open source community is the first of its kind in the world, and marks a major step forward for open systems and open standards for virtual world systems” said Satoshi Koike, CEO of ngi group, inc., to which 3Di belongs. Satoshi further states “The Jinsei platform is the culmination of the successful collaboration with the developers of the OpenMV project (http://openmv.org), and using open source software from Linden Lab®, the developer of the highly popular Second Life® platform."
The ngi group has become increasingly active in the virtual worlds space through 3Di.jp. Last week it released Movable Life, a Web interface for Second Life that allows for basic text communication and inventory management.
The goal of Jinsei is to provide a turnkey solution for businesses and universities looking for private, secure virtual worlds. But because it's open source--including code from the Second Life viewer--the platform should be adaptable for users looking for custom solutions.
While it looks like it's open to a global audience, there's still a Japanese focus.
A strong focus for 3Di will be to ensure that Jinsei provides a virtual world that recognizes and responds to the various and unique sensitivities of Japanese users. Moreover we are proud to announce that our first major partner is mixi, the largest social networking service in Japan.
Representatives from 3Di,jp and the ngi group are attending the Virtual Worlds Fall Conference and Expo.
