Millions of Us Enters Gaia

We reported in June that Millions of Us had partnered with Gaia Online. If you want to see the fruits of the partnership, the first project went live yesterday. To promote WWW: SummerSlam, Gaia opened up a virtual space and WWE is providing the presence through wrestler John Cena who will be answering questions on the Gaia forums. It's an interesting mix of virtual world's real-time communication and asymmetrical communication of bulletin boards and 2D social networking. And it seems to be working. Millions of Us blogged yesterday that they'd seen 50 pages of comments in Cena's thread within the first few hours. Now there are over 500. In just a quick skim, it doesn't look like Cena has actually responded to any of the comments, but the users are still responding and carrying on a WWE-centered conversation on their own.

Comments

What Millions of Us didn't say however, is that the majority of the pages aren't containing nice posts towards either Cena or wrestling in general. Even in the places where actual/roleplaying fighters hang out...they are laughing at the new subforum as well as the John Cena account. It shows they are interested, but only for a good laugh.
