Disney's Toontown Switching to Ad-Based Model
Disney's Toontown, the virtual world aimed at children, is moving to an advertising-supported model after four years of charging its users a monthly subscription of $9.95, reports Mediaweek. In late May, the company tested the model with an ad-based beta version, and executives say they've already noticed an increased user response. “We’ve had such a great success with Toontown that we wanted to make a portion of the game accessible to even more people, said Paul Yanover, executive vp and managing director, Disney Online." The company has 1.165 million users compared to Nickelodeon's free-to-play Nicktropolis' 1.4 million unique users. However, according to Comscore, Disney.com still sees approximately 20 million unique monthly visitors compared to Nickelodeon.com's approximately 10 million. Both companies lag considerably behind Club Penguin, which is also free and has over 4 million unique users.

That's true..but, Toontown is now becoming more popular, more players each day. Even though, club penguin has still more.
I myself play toontown, and it's a really good game, since it brings you challenge and you work hard for it.
