Chinese Developer Gets $8M in Venture Funding

Chinese developer Winking announced that it had completed its second round of venture funding, receiving $8 million from NIF SMBC Ventures Asia. It previously received $1 million in funding from Intel and HSBC. The company, founded in 1995, is currently working with The9 to co-develop MMORPG Fantastic Melody Online. It also provides art, animation, and design services for virtual worlds as well as localization. The9 is a leading online game operator in China, with exclusive rights to World of Warcraft among other properties.
