60 percent of Second Life users reported that they were very likely to buy virtual goods from Second Life, Second Life Research reported last week. In a survey with almost 250 respondents conducted over the spring of 2007, the team found that people aren't using Second Life to live a fantasy identity, but to explore and meet new people.
- 90 percent have less than a year experience in Second Life
- 70 percent access Second Life from home
- 67 percent are not afraid of giving out their personal information
- 42 percent are willing to use their credit card to purchase through Second Life
- 70 percent see Second Life as improving collaboration and cooperation
- 56 percent of respondents view Second Life as easy to use
- In a perhaps telling coincidence, 56 percent of respondents also have been active for even less than sixth months
The study concludes that "in order to become mainstream, Virtual Worlds like Second Life have many challenges to overcome and where user acceptance is probably the most important one."
